Meet: Rick

Rick's Story: I have been overweight since childhood. Luckily, I'd always been active and played a variety of sports to stay somewhat "healthy". However, in the last ten years I had continued with my poor childhood eating habits AND become less active, due in large part to the excess weight I was continuously gaining. When I got to my heaviest weight of 388 lbs, I knew it was time for a change.

I had been thinking of different medical procedures and fad diets to try, but had never acted on any of those because I felt I could still change on my own. When my boss asked me to be on his team for a Biggest Loser challenge at Anytime Fitness, I was very hesitant at first, but ultimately decided this was my chance and I better take it. We were given a meal plan, and did weights and cardio sessions twice a week with Trainer Lee. During the two months of the contest, I lost 36 lbs and made a good start on changing my eating habits. That progress encouraged me not to go back to my old ways.

Now, I try to eat 3 small meals a day and have 2-3 healthy snacks, along with plenty of water. I have 3 workouts a week with Trainer Lee, and do cardio 3-5 times a week for at least 30 minutes. I also use my Fitness Pal app to keep track of my calorie intake on days when I'm traveling or out of my normal routine. To date, I have lost over 163 lbs!

My advice to others would be to start with a routine and a trainer that you're comfortable with so you do not get discouraged or burned out. Once you start seeing, or in my case, others start noticing and commenting on your progress, you can and will increase your routine.

My biggest achievement in all of this is that I did it all with hard work and determination. I didn't use any crash diet or take any special wondrous diet pills, I simply changed my lifestyle and habits to healthier ones. Thanks to Trainer Lee and the Anytime staff for your support and encouragement!
